INGREDIENTS
One apple
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground nutmeg
Pinch of salt
2-3 tbsp melted butter
Batter
1 egg
60ml milk
2-3 tsp of SIS caster sugar
¼ tsp of vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
Optional sprinkling of flaked almonds
Optional 1 tsp SIS icing sugar for dusting
Methods
- Melt butter in a small oven proof dish in a microwave.
- Preheat oven to 200° degrees.
- Cut the apple into quarters and cut out the seeded core.
- Slice the quarters lengthways thinly.
- Put apples into dish with melted butter and add the cinnamon, nutmeg and salt and mix until apple slices are even coated.
- Place dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- To prepare batter, combine the milk, egg, sugar, salt, vanilla. Once mixed, stir in the flour until incorporated.
- Once the apples have had their time in the oven, bring down the temperature to 180° degrees.
- Take the dish out, pour in the batter, sprinkle over the optional sliced almonds and put it back in the oven.
- Bake for about 15-18 minutes, until puffy and golden.
- Sprinkle icing sugar over the German Apple Pancake if desired.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
